Jane walked up the steep stairs leading to the stands of the Quidditch Pitch. As she reached the top, she opened her book-bag and pulled out two blankets. She smoothed one out on a bench and wrapped the other one around her small frame. She sat down on the bench before lying backward on top of the bench.
She gazed up at the massive stars and let her mind wander. She missed home. She missed her brother and sister. Sure Seatton was at Hogwarts, but she hadn't seen him. He tended to ignore her at school. But little Lizzie, she was back home. And Jane missed the young girl. She always made Jane laugh and they would have so much fun together.
Jane continued to gaze until she saw a shooting star. She smiled and closed her eyes, silently chanting her wish. "Let me meet someone who will make me forget my homesick-ness." It sounded weird, but this year Jane hadn't stayed close with any of her old friends. She hadn't had any lengthy conversations or emotional catch-ups with anyone. She just wanted someone to talk to.

Jonnie had easily spotted her leaving the castle, as he was on one of his famous midnight excursions out of bounds. He was curious enough to follow her and watch from a distance. The night air folded around him as he crept up on her, and overheard her soft voice, carrying lonely words on the wind, to nestle themselves in Jonnie's ears. He sighed, somewhat ashamed of himself for following her. He did not think she wanted to be alone, but if she knew he words were heard, then she might die of her own embarrassment. Jonnie came up behind her, as silent as the wind itself.
Jane?" He spoke softly as to not startled his dear friend. He, of course, knew who she was from the moment he had spotted her sneaking about like a scared mouse, to come to the Quidditch Pitch. Jonnie let a soft smile play on his lips. Sometimes he could say more with a smile than with words. But tonight, he decided to let his charming words fall to someone who seemed to need them the most. He leaned over the bench and looked down at her.
"Say, such a lonely expression does not fit on a face so lovely. What troubles you tonight?" His words carried softly on the gentle wind blowing as he came around the bench to sit down aside her.

Lyndon's heart skipped a beat out of sheer terror as she heard someone softly speak her name. Once the voice registered in her head she smiled. Jonnie. She would know that voice anywhere. She hadn't spoken to him this year yet, even though they passed in the halls and during meal times. They were in opposing houses, and he was a year older. No one would approve their friendship.
She sat up, as he spoke to her again. She smiled and at once remembered why she treasured his friendship. He always knew the right thing to say, exactly how to dissolve her composure and to voice her inner-most thoughts. "I miss home. I miss my little sister and Seatton," she laughed. "I haven't seen him since we got here. And then to make it all worse." She gave him a sad smile. "I haven't felt this lonely in years. I can't connect to any of my old friends anymore."
"I have no one." She then gave a sigh. "Well, enough of my depressing saga...how have you been?"

Jonnie leaned in and wrapped an arm around her, giving a soft tug as he hugged her. He knew what it felt like to be alone, but his own life was picking up. He was happy for the first time with how his future looked in ages. He smiled to her.
"You always have me love, you know this. Although no one really knows we are friends, it is nice to know that you are always around. As for my life, well, I asked Rosalie to marry me. She agreed, and after this term we are going to run off somewhere and let the World know of our love." He laughed softly at the thought of settling down. He was not sure that if in her depressed state of mind she would want to hear of his happiness, but he also knew that if he did not share with her, she might flog him later.
Even if they could not let everyone know how close they were, Jonnie told her everything that went on his his life. When, that is, they had time to actually meet and talk. Jonnie cared deeply for his friend, and hated to see her so down about her life. She was beautiful, caring, and brilliant, and Jonnie knew that he should do something to make her at least smile.
"Come on, cheer up. You don't want me to charm your eyebrows blue again?" He did not know if she would remember tat time three years ago, when he did that after class once. She had been talking to one of her friends as Jonnie went by. As casual swipe of his wand, and poof, blue eyebrows. She almost killed him later when someone finally told her. Of course, she knew who had done it the minute she found out.

Jane smiled into Jonnie's chest as he gave her a hug. His arms were like those of a brother's or a father's, they brought instant comfort. As he began to talk about how he was always there for her, Jane looked down, hiding her smile. But as he mentioned his proposal and an imininte wedding, she slapped him on the chest. "Jonnie! I cannot belive you would plan a proposal without telling or asking me for advice." She had put on hand on her hip and was waving her index finger at him with the other hand. She smiled and leaned forward to kiss his cheek. "Congratulations. I'm very happy for you. Rosalie is a very lucky girl."
Jane was very happy for Jonnie and despite the depressed state she's been in, she actually was smiling. Since she was feeling more back to her normal self, when Jonnie mentioned the blue eyebrows, she responded as such. She jumped up withdrew her wand and shrieked, "Jonnie Ringo! If you dare to do that again, I promise I will dye all your clothes permantly pink." She smirked at him. "And," she threatened "If that doesn't scare you, I'll also die your hair pink." She knew he would be wary to act against a threat like that. He learned once when they were 6 and she threw her mother's birthday cake for her out a two story window and onto his head.

Jonnie gave her a look of shock, that was not entirely false as he thought of himself walking around with pink hair. He did not like that at all, and decided to let this part of their conversation fall away. He smiled at her, and nodded.
"Well the proposal was not entirely planned. It was more out of the blue than a written agenda. I just saw her, had the ring, and could not resist. It took her forever to say yes. So much so that I was worried for a moment. But when she said yes, it was same old Jonnie dancing on the table in Hogsmead. I am still dancing on the inside." He smiled and looked at her. He was concerned for her depression, but thought it best to keep the conversation light and flowery for the time being. There would be plenty enough time for talk later. He planned on keeping a close eye on his dearest of friends.
"Tell me love," he whispered. "Why do we force ourselves to continue the sherad and sneak around like two love sick mouses that need tending too?" He knew his familiar use of the word mouses would bring a smile to her face, even if it might be a false one. He had a tendency to try to frighten her with mice all the time, knowing she really was not the squeamish sort of person. Sometimes Jonnie just knew things, as his gift of empathy was growing stronger the older he got.

Jane's face broke into a huge smile and she collapsed into laughter at the sight of Jonnie's shocked face. She could see the wheels turning deep inside his head and the horror of imaginging living with the consequnce of pink hair. As he nodded out of fear she stopped laughing and smiled.
As she told her about the proposal she smile and was genuinely happy for him. He deserved to be this happy and with a girl as wonderful as she supossed Rosalie was. She had never met Rosalie. All because of stupid inter-house grudges. Just as she was inwardly cursing, he voiced to stop being secret friends. She was imaging how great that would be when his choice of usage of the word mouse made her snort. Right away she gave a shy look over her awe of snorting, and she collapsed into laughter.
After a couple minutes her laughter subsided and sat there attempting to capture her breath. She looked at him once her breathing slowed down. "Really?" Her eyes were shining at the idea. "You don't think it would cause either of us trouble?" She was all for 'outing' their friendship, but not if it brought her strife. She didn't need any more bad glances in the hallways or anymore snide comments under peoples breath.

Jonnie shrugged, he was not sure what the damage of their outed friendship might be, and he was not all that much worried about it. After all, he was of age, and she was old enough to make her own decisions. Jonnie pondered it briefly and then turned to her. He smiled lightly wondering if he was making the right decision, and then thought nothing of it.
"We are old enough to choose our friends, and not let our friends be chosen for us due to some House or bloodline. It has been so many years of this sneaking about just to speak. Or counter cursing my own house if they try to throw a jinx at you when your back is turned. Ah, yes, I have done that many of times when you were unaware." He smiled to her as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"We have known each other a long, long time Jane, and there is nothing I would like more than to sit down and have one decent meal with an old friend, without worrying about who is watching, or which one will say what. It grows o drab."
Jonnie looked up at the stars, and let the night noises come into his ears. Several owls would call out to mates as they were on their nightly hunt from the castle. The wind picked up softly, blowing some leaves around on the uncleaned pitch. Jonnie glanced at her and nodded.
"And your thoughts are?" He let the question hang in the air, floating like a balloon at a child's birthday party.

Jane smiled brightly as Jonnie voiced his opinion about outing their friendship. She had always viewed inter-house grudges as stupid and childish. Now she wondered why they ever put up with it in the first place. She figured it was because she was scared and intimidated of defying the old traditions of Gryffindor. She'd always wondered why she had been put in Gryffindor, she never felt brave or strong like a Gryffindor should. She realized that now, at this moment, she was less than a Gryffindor. She didn't deserve to be a Gryffindor. She was weak and depressed. And now, defying a old, stupid house tradtion felt like the first strong choice she had ever made.
Jonnie pulled Jane out her thoughts when he mentioned his nonchalance about their other housemates. She smiled at him. "Your right. I already don't fit in at my house, why should I care what they think?" As Jonnie looked up at the stars, Jane's gaze fell on the open Quiddicth pitch. Her heat warmed as she thought of playing Quidditch. She hadn't been paying attention, but was also pretty sure Quidditch try-outs hadn't happened already. Maybe she should try out this year. She might meet new people in her house.
As he asked her for her thought she looked up at him, feeling so much better before he had arrived. She felt sure of herself and believed, if only for tonight, that maybe this year wouldn't be as bad as it started. "Screw 'em. I think they can handle the shock." She laughed, her voice reverberarting in the empty stadium and in the still fall night. This wind blew and carried her laughter, one that had not been heard since her arrival at Hogwarts.

~We will just continue and ignore any of our comments about Rosalie Mason. It should not be that bad to cover up. Ok?~
Jonnie could not hold back the laugh that found it's way out of him. He never recalled Jane being so positively defiant. He nodded in approval, thinking she would have made a wonderful Slytherin, if such things mattered. He clapped his hands and stood up to give her a proper standing ovation. He really did appreciate his friend at that moment. It was something he had not honestly expected her to say. Something he was really impressed with.
"Well then, shall we sit together at breakfast in the morning? I am sure they would get a real interesting kick out of seeing us not only communication, but hopping tables to eat together. Or is this too much too soon?" Jonnie laughed out the comment and danced around softly in circles.
Sometimes when you least expected it, your friends had a way of making life a genuinely interesting place in which to be involved. Jonnie thought this as he turned and sat down hard on the bench beside her. He crossed his legs, and tilted his head, his eyes almost rimmed with his tears of mirth. He shook his head and watched her. He was happy to see that she looked alot better than when he first arrived.
