Meeting in the Three Broomsticks

As Jane wandered down the small winding lane, the cold fall wind picked up she pulled her black wool coat closer to her frame. She looked worriedly at her watch, but relaxed once she saw that she had another 5 mintues to get to the pub. She was going to meet her old childhood friend Adriana. Even though Adriana is a few years Jane’s senior, they got along very well as kids. She turned off a residential street and found herself in the town of Hogsmeade. She smiled anxiously and hurriedly headed to the Three Broomsticks.

She walked into the pub, still smiling. She looked around and didn’t see Adriana. She stopped smiling, studdenly hoping that she didn’t look like a raving lunatic and also that Adriana was actually here, she just didn’t recognize her. She looked once more around the pub and decided to have a seat. None of the other patrons of the pub were feminine and under 25. She took off her coat after she sat down, revealing a pair of dark denim jeans and a long sleeved white shirt.

The waitress came over and she ordered a butterbeer. A couple minutes passed, no sign of Adriana, and her butterbeer came. She sipped the bubbly concoction and waited for her friend to arrive.

Adriana was fussing over a hyper Katie in her flat trying to get her still long enough to finish dressing her for Sirius who was going to be taking her with him to the Potters to have a play date with their boy Harry. “Katie no cookie for desert if you don’t sit still this instant.” She warned with a positive effect as Katie promptly sat down with a pout. Finally having finished dressing her she grabbed her little witch and Headed out to the living room where Sirius was waiting. “Here’s my little witch, have fun you two.” She said giving each a kiss on the cheek before he dissaparted from the room.

Sighing in relief, Adriana plopped herself on the couch enjoying the moment of peace. Glancing at the clock, she cursed loudly at the time. Jumping up taking one quick look in the mirror, she grabbed her wallet and apparated out of the flat and into the busy streets of Hogsmeade. Walking hurriedly into the three broomsticks, she looked around the room spotting Jane at a little empty table; she removed her coat and sat with her.

“So sorry I’m running late, I had to get Katie ready for Sirius to take. You haven’t been waiting long have you?” she asked sheepishly.

Jane was sipping her butterbeer when Adriana hurriedly came in. Jane's face broke into a smile as her old friend slide into the booth. She hadn't seen Adriana in a few years, not since the year after she had graduated school. So when Adriana blamed her tardiness on someone named Katie, Jane was a little confused. A second later, Jane realized Adriana had asked her a question and that she had still remained silent. She cast an apolegetic look at her old friend, she guessed she was just easily distracted today. "Don't worry about it. I've only been here like five minutes tops. Neither of us were extremely punctual...ever." Jane laughed at her own joke.

A second passed and Jane was back to wondering who Katie was. She could tell from the casual way Adriana mentioned her that Katie was an important part of Adriana's life. Jane was embarassed that she didn't know her and felt guilty about not keeping in better touch with her friend. So she took another gulp of her butterbeer, partly wishing she was of age so she could have firewhiskey. "Sorry who's Katie?" Jane looked sheepishly at her friend waiting for the response.

Laughing along with Jane she shook her head with mirth. "I suppose your right, I was always late for something and everything, some things never change."

Adriana grinned sheepishly as Jane asked who Katie was. "Oh sorry I forgot we haven’t talked in such a long time, Katie is my daughter, cute little bugger she is. If I would have remembered you hadn’t met her I would have brought her with me instead of letting Sirius take her for the afternoon."

Looking around she spotted the barmaid and called her over, ordering only a butterbeer for the moment. Turning her attention back to her childhood friend she grinned. “It’s been such a long time, other than school what have you been up to? I was at my mum’s the other day and your mum was there too, there daily tea time you know.”
